Tensions flared in central London after England's World Cup loss to Argentina, with fans taking to the streets and clashing with each other. A lone Argentina supporter was escorted away from a crowd of English fans by Metropolitan Police officers.
The man, wearing an Argentina fan shirt with Messi emblazoned on it, was flanked by police officers as they ushered him to safety. Officers told people to stay back as fans wrapped in England flags shouted and swore at the young man, calling him a 'wr' and making hand gestures.
The Argentina fan was escorted to a police van after being walked through a sea of jeering fans separated by officers. He appeared stunned by the violent behaviour and raised his hands in the air after reaching the safety of the van.

At least one object is said to have been thrown at him. Footage shared on social media shows police and security guards separating the hooligans, many of them with their phones out. Police have made seven arrests.
Those arrested include a person on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Another was arrested for allegedly assaulting an emergency worker, and one arrest was made on suspicion of racially aggravated assault.
A Met spokesperson said that officers intervened before any harm could come to the Argentina fan, forming a bubble around him and escorting him to the safety of a nearby police van. The incident occurred as crowds were dispersing after the match.

The Three Lions' successful run in the World Cup came to an end yesterday after they were beaten 2-1 by Argentina, the defending champions. England fans watching the game were left in tears and their heads hanging after the bitter result.
Twin brothers Luke and Vee Moore, aged 33, expressed their disappointment, saying they believed Three Lions had a good chance of winning. Argentina and Spain will come head-to-head in Sunday's final.
