A 36-year-old woman has been jailed for 16 weeks after stealing nearly £1,000 worth of chocolate from a store in Nottingham city centre. Charlotte Jones pleaded guilty to the crime and was also ordered to pay £156.79 in compensation. The theft was not an isolated incident, as Jones had already been banned from certain shops in the area due to her history of shoplifting.
Jones's actions were described as causing "absolute misery" to the targeted stores, including Hotel Chocolat and Waterstones. She was caught helping herself to £851 worth of chocolate boxes, despite being banned from the premises. Her persistent offending had a significant impact on the businesses, with police welcoming her removal from the streets.
The police are using the case to highlight the effectiveness of Criminal Behaviour Orders in tackling business crime in the city centre. These orders ban offenders from certain areas and can result in jail time if breached. The goal is to protect honest businesses and prevent further incidents of shoplifting, with the police committed to addressing the issue and keeping the streets safe.

Jones's reaction to being caught was one of defiance and anger, with her using abusive language towards the authorities. However, the police hope that her time behind bars will give her the opportunity to reflect on her actions and consider the impact they have on others. The case serves as a warning to potential offenders that shoplifting will not be tolerated and will be met with serious consequences.
