It's now easier than ever for consumers to book a flight on Allegiant Air, thanks to an exclusive online distribution agreement between the Las Vegas-based discounter and Expedia.
The one-year agreement allows Allegiant flights to be purchased through Expedia, in addition to Allegiant's own website, making them more visible to a wider audience, particularly those unfamiliar with the budget airline.
Expedia's global online travel portal now offers Allegiant flights for purchase, but some extras, such as checked bags and seat assignments, are not available through the platform and must be purchased directly on the airline's website.
Travelers purchasing Allegiant flights through Expedia may also miss out on fare bundles that include these extras, potentially leading to increased costs compared to booking directly with the airline.
Allegiant offers three fare bundles on its website: a "basic" bundle that includes a seat assignment and free carry-on bag, a "bonus" bundle that includes a checked bag and extra-legroom seat, and a "total" bundle that includes both a carry-on and checked bag, as well as an extra-legroom seat.
The distribution of Allegiant flights through Expedia is part of the airline's efforts to integrate its recent merger with Sun Country Airlines, which it acquired in May.
The merger aims to generate $140 million in annual benefits by boosting Allegiant's presence in the Midwest, particularly at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), Sun Country's largest base.
Allegiant's president, Robert Neal, has stated that the company plans to integrate Sun Country's operations into its own and expand its service in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market over the next 12 to 18 months.
