A desperate search unfolded Thursday in the waters off Ensenada, Mexico, triggered by a chilling alert: a possible person overboard from the Carnival Radiance. The cruise ship immediately altered course, turning back towards the last known location to begin a frantic rescue operation.
The crew scoured the ocean, battling against time and the vastness of the sea, hoping to locate anyone in need of help. Ensenada, a coastal city roughly 75 miles south of San Diego, became the focal point of a growing concern as the ship systematically searched the area.
This incident arrives less than a month after another tragedy struck a Carnival vessel. Anna Kepner, a bright and ambitious high school cheerleader with dreams of naval service and a future in law enforcement, was found deceased aboard a different Carnival ship in the Gulf of America on November 7th.
Kepner, poised to embark on a life of service, had envisioned a career with the Navy and ultimately as a K-9 police officer. Her unexpected death cast a somber shadow over the cruise line and her community.
Following Kepner’s death, the ship completed its voyage, returning to PortMiami on November 8th. Authorities, including the FBI, investigated the circumstances and determined there was no ongoing threat to the safety of passengers on subsequent sailings.
The U.S. Coast Guard was notified regarding the latest potential overboard situation near Ensenada, and their involvement adds another layer of urgency to the ongoing search. Every moment is critical as the Radiance and supporting agencies work to determine the fate of the individual.
