LOBLAW'S BREAD SCANDAL: $500M PAYOUT ENDS TONIGHT!

LOBLAW'S BREAD SCANDAL: $500M PAYOUT ENDS TONIGHT!

Today is the absolute last day to claim your share of a massive $500-million settlement stemming from a national price-fixing scandal. If you bought packaged bread anywhere in Canada between January 2001 and December 2021, you could be entitled to a payment.

The core of the issue? Major bread companies were accused of colluding to artificially inflate prices, meaning you likely paid more for your daily loaf than you should have. No receipts are needed to file a claim, simplifying the process for millions of Canadians.

Eligible claimants could receive $25, with the potential for up to $50, though it may take six to twelve months after today’s deadline for the funds to arrive. This settlement represents a significant victory for consumers who were unknowingly overcharged for a staple food item.

The $500-million agreement was approved by courts in both Ontario and Quebec, and primarily involves payouts from Loblaw and George Weston. These companies were at the center of the accusations of industry-wide price manipulation.

Interestingly, a portion of the settlement – $96 million – was previously distributed as $25 Loblaw gift cards in 2018 and 2019. Those who received those cards may still be eligible for further compensation, depending on remaining funds.

To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old and a Canadian resident (excluding Quebec) as of December 31, 2021. The period of purchase – between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2021 – covers a substantial timeframe, increasing the likelihood of eligibility for many.

Given the deadline, expect high traffic on the claim websites. Don't delay; this is your final opportunity to seek compensation for potentially inflated bread prices over two decades.

Quebec residents have a separate claim process and should ensure they submit their claim through the designated Quebec portal to ensure proper processing and consideration.
