MAN DEAD in Retirement Home INFERNO—Arson Suspected in Separate Federal Building FIRE!

A quiet Sunday night shattered at a North York retirement home as flames erupted, claiming the life of an elderly man. The fire, reported just before 10:30 p.m., quickly escalated to a two-alarm blaze at the Forestview Retirement Residence on Finch Avenue West.

Firefighters raced against time, confronting the blaze that originated within the living room of a fourth-floor unit. Crews swiftly located the resident and initiated a daring rescue, bringing him down to the lobby where paramedics immediately began treatment.

Despite the rapid response, the man succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The cause of death remains undisclosed as investigators meticulously piece together the events leading to the tragedy.

According to fire officials, the fire was contained to the unit’s living area and brought under control with remarkable speed. Remarkably, no other residents required evacuation, thanks to light smoke conditions and effective ventilation by Toronto Fire Services.

Twenty-one fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, a testament to the seriousness of the initial call. The investigation into the fire’s origin is now in the hands of the Ontario Fire Marshall, seeking answers to prevent future incidents.

Hours later, a separate fire ignited in a federal building on Yonge Street, adding to the city’s anxieties. First responders arrived shortly after 11 a.m. to find flames consuming part of the structure.

One individual was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police quickly apprehended a suspect in connection with the blaze, leading investigators to believe arson may be the cause.

The affected building houses crucial federal services, including a Canadian Armed Forces recruiting centre and a Service Canada location offering passport services. The incident has prompted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspected arson.

These two separate fires, occurring within hours of each other, have left the city reeling and prompted heightened vigilance regarding fire safety and potential criminal activity.
