The new year began with a brutal act of violence in the Bronx. A 72-year-old man, simply waiting for his train, was violently shoved into the side of a moving subway car.
The attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the 161st Street – Yankee Stadium station. Witnesses described a sudden, unprovoked assault as the southbound No. 4 train was pulling into the station.
Police report the man was pushed directly into the train’s path, impacting the side of the car before falling back onto the platform. He sustained serious head injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital.
Fortunately, authorities have stated the victim is currently in stable condition. The incident has sparked renewed concern over safety within the city’s transit system.
A 29-year-old man, identified as Anton Aleshin, has been arrested and faces charges including attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
