A 23-year-old airman from North Carolina died Thursday from injuries sustained in a heavy equipment accident at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
The deceased was identified as Airman 1st Class Cedric Eneluna, a member of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Pavements and Equipment Flight.
His unit maintains critical infrastructure, including roads and airfields, that supports the base’s launch, test, and range operations under the U.S. Space Force.
Base officials said Eneluna was operating heavy equipment when it rolled down an embankment. No other personnel were injured.
In a statement, the base expressed profound sadness over the loss, describing Eneluna as a service member who served with honor, humility, and unwavering commitment to his teammates and mission.
The official cause of death has not yet been determined by the county coroner’s office. A Safety Investigation Board review is underway.
Eneluna was from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and spent part of his childhood in the Philippines. He enlisted on March 5, 2024.
He arrived at Vandenberg in August for his first duty assignment, joining the unit’s pavement and heavy equipment specialists known as the “Dirt Boyz.”
Commanders praised his character and dedication. The base commander noted he earned the respect of those around him through a positive attitude, tireless work ethic, and willingness to help others.
His squadron commander said Eneluna exemplified the qualities of an outstanding airman, bringing out the best in everyone and always ready to work and assist with a positive attitude.
