Matt Damon has revealed a firm family rule that has remained unchanged throughout his daughters’ upbringing: shared dinners are non-negotiable.
The 55-year-old actor and his wife have insisted that, regardless of his filming schedule, the family sits down together for dinner. They are raising four daughters aged 15 to 27.
Damon said the family is focused on presence and embracing the moment as the children grow older. He described the approach as facing change directly rather than resisting it.

The ritual recently received an unexpected challenge when one daughter noted the family had spent an entire meal absorbed in work and phones. Damon acknowledged the observation and called it a reminder of how easily distraction sets in.
The incident prompted the family to be more deliberate about setting devices aside. They are now more mindful of using dinner time for genuine connection.
The tradition carries added weight given the demands of Damon’s career. He noted his daughters attended a recent film premiere after enduring a long and difficult shoot abroad.

Because Damon films around the world, his daughters have become seasoned travellers. They often join him on location when possible.
Despite international premieres and global film sets, Damon said the ordinary moments at home matter most. Shared dinners remain the constant he prioritises as his children approach adulthood.
