Disturbing footage has emerged on social media showing multiple vehicles engulfed in flames along a highway connecting Guadalajara and Tepic, with multiple plumes of black smoke visible in the air.
According to initial reports, a tractor-trailer suffered a brake failure and slammed into a line of vehicles that had stopped due to an earlier accident. The crash occurred when a third tractor-trailer crashed into the scene, causing widespread destruction.
The initial accident involved a rear-end collision between two tractor-trailers. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but their efforts were hampered by the second impact. Three private vehicles and two tractor-trailer trucks were completely destroyed by the fire.
Two other private vehicles and an official National Guard unit sustained material damage in the blaze. Firefighters later extinguished the flames, and officials reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the crash was detained by the National Guard.
The authorities have confirmed that the tractor-trailer suffered a failure in its braking system, leading to the devastating collision. The extent of the damage and injuries from the crash are still being assessed.
