The devastating fire that swept through a Bangkok pub early Monday has left at least 27 people dead and several others injured, according to officials. The blaze, which occurred around midnight at the Na Ladprao pub in the northern part of the city, was brought under control by firefighters in approximately 30 minutes.
Video footage shared by first responders shows flames pouring from the front of the building and thick black smoke billowing into the sky as patrons scrambled to escape. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working to identify victims and determine the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stating that 27 people lost their lives in the fire. He also reported that several injured victims were taken to a hospital, with 63 people transported in total, including 22 in critical condition.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, with officials working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the blaze. A musician who was performing at the pub at the time of the fire reported seeing smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the power went out, and an explosion was heard shortly thereafter.
Many of the victims were located in restrooms at the back of the pub, with photos from the aftermath showing heavy damage inside the building. The fire is the latest in a series of deadly nightlife fires to strike Thailand in recent years, including a 2022 fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand that killed 14 people.
