YELLOWKNIFE HOTEL ATTACK: SUV PLOWS INTO LOBBY, ELEVATOR TRAPPED!

Christmas Eve in Yellowknife took a terrifying turn when an SUV careened through the front of the Explorer Hotel, smashing deep into the lobby and ultimately colliding with an elevator shaft.

Against all odds, the crash resulted in no critical injuries. Corporal Josh Seaward of the Yellowknife RCMP described a chaotic scene, revealing that the vehicle struck four individuals before finally coming to a halt.

The most harrowing part of the incident involved six people trapped inside the elevator. Firefighters battled for over an hour, meticulously working to free those stranded within the confined space.

Police quickly apprehended the driver, a 60-year-old woman from Yellowknife, suspecting impaired driving. Subsequent breathalyzer tests confirmed their suspicions – her blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.

She now faces serious charges, including impaired driving, four counts of assault with a weapon, and mischief exceeding $5,000, reflecting the extensive damage inflicted upon the hotel.

The hotel’s chief operating officer expressed immense relief that the outcome wasn’t far worse. Despite the dramatic damage – including a front door found ten feet inside the lobby – the hotel remarkably remained operational.

Contractors swiftly responded to begin repairs, utilizing a secondary entrance to maintain service. While temporary fixes are in place, the hotel anticipates the installation of new storefront doors within approximately eight weeks.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of impaired driving, especially during a time typically associated with celebration and joy.
