The disappearance of Elnaz Hajtamiri always felt different, a darkness that hinted at something far beyond a simple domestic dispute. Four years have passed since the 37-year-old Iranian immigrant vanished, her dream of a cake decorating business tragically cut short.
Investigators now believe the case stretches across continents, linking to areas as diverse as Timmins, Quebec, Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates. The Ontario Provincial Police are urgently seeking information from anyone who might have knowledge within these regions, recognizing a crucial piece of the puzzle may lie hidden there.
Elnaz was violently abducted on January 12, 2022, from a relative’s home in Wasaga Beach by three individuals. Despite extensive searches, her body has never been found, leaving her family in agonizing uncertainty.
Weeks before her abduction, Elnaz was attacked in an underground parking garage, a chilling precursor to the events that followed. Mohammed Lilo, her former boyfriend, is considered the central figure, facing charges of kidnapping and murder, with a trial looming later this year. He has pleaded not guilty, and the charges remain unproven.
But Lilo wasn’t acting alone. A network of individuals, described as opportunistic criminals, have also been arrested and charged in connection with the case. This suggests a level of organization and ruthlessness that elevates the crime beyond personal grievances.
Law enforcement sources suggest a disturbing connection to a larger criminal enterprise: the theft of high-end vehicles. Remember the surge in stolen trucks across Canadian cities, disappearing into shipping containers at the Port of Montreal, destined for places like Dubai and Africa?
The stolen trucks weren’t simply about financial gain. They were a component of a sophisticated operation, and investigators believe Elnaz may have inadvertently stumbled upon this illicit activity. Did she witness something she shouldn’t have, making her a target?
Two men accused of attempting to kidnap and harm Elnaz prior to her disappearance – Harshdeep Binner and Riyasad Singh – were allegedly deeply involved in a large-scale stolen truck ring operating out of Edmonton. They are accused of stealing twenty Ford F-150 trucks, specifically targeting models with easily compromised ignition systems.
The OPP and the Province of Ontario are jointly offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Elnaz’s whereabouts. She is described as approximately 5-foot-3, with a slim build and black hair. Investigators urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.
“Elnaz’s family and friends have endured years of unimaginable pain,” stated Det. Insp. Steven Martell. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to finding answers and bringing them the closure they deserve.” The search continues, fueled by the hope of uncovering the truth and finally bringing Elnaz home.
