The wait is over for Oura Ring 4 owners – the long-anticipated charging case has finally arrived. After putting it to the test, the design feels refined and thoughtfully executed, standing up well against its competitors in terms of build quality.
But the crucial question remains: is a $99 charging case truly worth the investment? This accessory is specifically designed for the Oura Ring 4, offering no compatibility with older generations like the Ring 3.
The standard Oura charger, a simple flat square with a protruding post, functions adequately. However, its design isn’t ideal for travel, and it’s prone to being accidentally disconnected with a simple nudge.
Many Oura users, myself included, have been hoping for a more secure and convenient charging solution. Competitors like RingConn and Luna Ring have included cases with their rings, and Oura has now joined the fray.
My personal use case involves keeping my ring safe during weightlifting sessions, where it’s both uncomfortable and impractical to wear. The charging case will live in my gym bag, providing a secure charging haven during workouts.
Oura claims the case provides enough power for five full ring charges. A full charge of the ring itself takes up to 80 minutes, though less time is needed if the ring already has some power. The case recharges fully in approximately 90 minutes.
Considering the Oura Ring 4 already boasts a battery life of five days or more, this case could potentially extend your time between cable charges to nearly a month.
It’s important to note that the charging case is sized specifically for your ring, so selecting the correct size is essential. A size 8 ring requires a size 8 case, and so on.
A color-coded LED on the front of the case provides clear charging status. A pulsing white light indicates the ring is charging, mirroring the behavior of the standard charger. An open case displays its own charge level: green signifies a full battery.
The case seamlessly integrates with the Oura app, allowing you to monitor both the ring’s and the case’s battery levels directly within the application.
For comparison, I also tested charging cases from Luna Ring and RingConn. Luna’s case offers roughly 30 days of charge, while RingConn boasts an impressive 150 days.
Size is another key differentiator. RingConn’s case is the largest of the three, likely contributing to its extended battery life. Oura’s case is slightly wider than Luna’s, but noticeably slimmer.
RingConn includes its case with the ring, priced at $299 for the complete package. Luna Ring offers a ring and case bundle for $329. Oura’s separate purchase of the case brings the total cost to between $448 and $598, depending on the ring model.
