A wave of terror washed over passengers aboard an Air Canada flight just moments before takeoff. As the aircraft began to taxi toward the runway, chilling screams erupted from the darkness beneath the cabin floor, instantly shattering the pre-flight calm.
The source of the horrifying sounds was a ground crew member, inadvertently trapped inside the plane’s cargo hold. Doors had closed unexpectedly, sealing him within the confined space as the massive Airbus began to move.
Passengers seated near the rear of the aircraft first noticed the disturbance – muffled banging and desperate cries for help echoing through the cabin. Flight attendants, alerted by the growing panic, rushed toward the back of the plane, their faces etched with alarm.
“Some of the people… heard the person screaming and banging, trying to get their attention,” one passenger recalled. A growing sense of dread filled the cabin as it became clear something was terribly wrong.
Thankfully, the aircraft hadn’t reached takeoff speed. It came to a halt, and a short time later, the trapped crew member was brought safely out of the cargo hold. He walked into the cabin, visibly shaken but unharmed, offering a reassuring presence to the frightened passengers.
The incident, which occurred on December 13th at Toronto Pearson Airport, ultimately led to the cancellation of Flight 1502, destined for Moncton, New Brunswick. The 184 passengers onboard were left to grapple with the unsettling experience.
It appears the crew member was assisting with loading luggage, lending an extra hand to ground staff. In the bustle of preparations, he was inadvertently left inside when the cargo doors were secured.
After disembarking, passengers waited as the flight crew completed the necessary paperwork. The ordeal, though resolved without injury, left a lasting impression on everyone involved, a stark reminder of the hidden complexities of air travel.
